Hello Lovelies. Here’s a ‘how to’ post on getting a quick and easy vintage manicure much like the one you see Dita Von Teese sporting regularly (i.e. Where the half moon at the base of the nail is left bare). This technique is so quick and easy! You will need…
1. Plastic self adhesive ring reinforcements.
2. Your chosen nail colour.
3. Polish remover.
4. Cotton buds/Q Tips.
5. Top coat
For speed and ease I am leaving out the bare nail tip detail often created when doing an authentic 1940s manicure. I save those for special occassions as they are more fiddly to do. So, here’s what you do…
Stick the ring reinforcements over the natural half moon at the base of each nail. Make sure they are stuck down really well to avoid varnish going underneath.
Then apply the first coat of your chosen nail colour and allow to dry (I’m using Barry M nail paint in ‘Raspberry’). Once dry, apply second coat of nail polish.
TIP: It’s better to do two thin coats than one thick one.
Peel off the stickers after about a minute or so after the second coat has been applied. Taking them off while the polish is still a little wet will prevent them tearing the varnish off your nails. Clean up if you need to with a cotton bud soaked in a tiny amount of polish remover.
TIP: If a regular round head cotton bud is too bulky for cleaning up, try using a pointy tipped one instead. Or you could use an orange stick with a little loose cotton wool twizzled onto the end and soaked in nail polish remover.
Finally, finish off with a layer of top coat to seal the whole thing and to give a glossy finish (I used Seche Vite Top Coat).
And there you have it! A super quick and easy way to create a 40s style manicure. Let me know how you get on with yours if you give it a try.
