Today I’m giving you the recipe for my spicy popcorn topping. It’s really warming and super quick to make. I made these up into little gift packages to put into my Christmas hampers. You can sprinkle this over freshly popped corn kernels or ready made salted popcorn (just make sure you omit the salt from the mix recipe if you are, otherwise it’ll be far too salty!). This recipe makes enough to sprinkle over 4-5 servings. So pop it in an airtight container to keep it fresh for future use.
2 tsp Fine sea salt
2 tsp Paprika
2 tsp Chilli powder
2 tsp Ground cumin
1 tsp Garlic granules
1 tsp Onion granules
1/2 cup of corn kernels or 1/2 bag of salted ready popped corn
What to do:
1) If using corn kernels, heat a small amount of oil in a deep pan with a well fitting lid. Add the corn kernels and shake the pan to coat them in the oil. Cook on a low heat until the popping has stopped. Set aside.
3) Eat! Or you can do what I did and turn them into little serving gifts for hampers too. I made little bags for the spices out of Christmas wrapping and put 2tsp in each. The corn kernels were added to a brown paper bag. I popped the spice mix package into the corn kernel bag and sealed with a bow. I also added a small card with the cooking instructions.
This mix is fairly spicy, so if you don’t like too much spice, simply use less of or completely omit the chilli powder from the recipe. It’s nice and warming and makes a change from the usualy available flavours. That’s all for today, thank you kindly for reading.
